Kangaroo Island’s New Ferry
Kangaroo Island Connect (‘kic’) operates a 25 metre, Crowther designed, high speed, wave piercing catamaran, capable of delivering 95 passengers between Penneshaw and Cape Jervis in 30 minutes.
The ferry is named ‘James Cowell’. James Cowell, farmed on Kangaroo Island for over 40 years. He opposed the monopoly rights over the fairway at Cape Jervis which prevented competition on the route for over 20 years.
kic provides a passenger service to and from Kangaroo Island which is cheaper, faster and more convenient than ever before.
The ferry is highly seaworthy. Passengers are seated in luxury touring coach type seating, as far aft (back of the ferry) as possible. This reduces the likelihood of seasickness. There are four cabins; a small premium first class cabin on the flybridge with the captain, a fun kids’ cabin, snoozers’ cabin or quiet area for exhausted travellers and the main cabin for chatterers. The idea is to add some fun to the crossing.
