Kids in Community Inc.

About Us | Our Patron | Community Services | Press Releases

Kids in Community Incorporated (KIC) is a non-profit organisation established in 2000. Based in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, KIC raises awareness of the positive role young people play in our local communities.

The majority of our youth make an important and positive contribution to community life. KIC raises much-needed awareness of the optimistic and enthusiastic attitude of young people, bringing to public attention the positive and meaningful ways that youth participate in our community.

The Kids in Community Awards are an annual public celebration of support for and by young people in our community and play an important role in acknowledging such participation.

The Awards also acknowledge the important role that mentors play in supporting youth in our community. The Kids in Community Awards also celebrate the role such individuals.

Our Patron – Rachel Ward

Rachel Ward image

With professional achievements as a model, actor, journalist, scriptwriter and director, Rachel is dedicated to making a positive contribution to public life by helping others.

Her involvement with community began over a decade ago when Rachel volunteered to work as a cook in the Kings Cross Crisis Centre, run by the Sydney City Mission. She is a tireless fundraiser – raising over three million dollars for mentoring programs in New South Wales.

Rachel has a special connection to the Northern Rivers region through her role as Patron of KIC. Reflecting upon her work as a volunteer and fundraiser, Rachel outlined how these experiences provided ‘what I have discovered to be an absolutely fundamental part of the human condition, the opportunity to contribute to public life. By that I mean the opportunity to participate in and give back to a community, a society that on the whole serves the majority of us very well’.
